When Elaine pulled up to our center, she wasn’t coming in for help. She wanted to give back.
Elaine and her family came to Hope, donating five large bags of diapers for our moms. As she set the bags down, she had so many emotions. It had been 25 years since she had last been at Hope Women’s Center, but she never forgot the love and care she received.
Elaine first came to Hope when she was just 15 years old and pregnant. At that time, the people around her were not very encouraging. Her mom told her she could not be a mom. Most of the doctors she saw told her the same thing. They said she was too young and that this was not a path she should take.
But there was one doctor who told her to come to Hope Women’s Center.
How Free Support for Women in Crisis Changed One Teen’s Life
As a teenager, Elaine walked into our center scared and nervous about what her future would look like. She didn’t know if she could raise a child. She didn’t know how to be a good parent. But at Hope, she found support and encouragement. She was told that she could be a mom, and that she would not have to figure it out on her own.
Elaine stayed connected at Hope and began taking GED classes at the center. Step by step, she kept making progress. The decision she made years ago changed the direction of her life.
Today, Elaine has seven children and the baby is 25 years old now. She shared that they are all doing well and she is continuing to thrive. As she stood in our center, looking around at a place she had not been in for years, she shared that Hope saved her life.
25 Years Later: She Came Back to the Place That Gave Her Hope
For a long time, Elaine did not realize that Hope Women’s Center was still here. Life moved on, and her focus was on raising her kids. Then one day, she came across our Facebook page. She saw a post about our monthly needs and diapers were on the list. It caught her attention right away. She knew she had to give back.
Elaine came not looking for support, but ready to give it. She brought her daughter with her, the same daughter she had once been told she could not have, and together they carried in five large bags filled with diapers.

At one point, she was a teenager being told she was not ready and not capable. She needed someone to speak truth to her and walk with her through it. Today, Elaine is a mom who is capable and giving back to other moms who may be facing the same fear she once felt.
